NICK HANSENThe Daily Telegraph May 30, 2018 11:08AMA PEDESTRIAN is dead after being hit by a vehicle on the M4 near Penrith. It is understood the man was walking on the side of the highway 200m east of Mulgoa Rd near Jamisontown when struck by an eastbound truck. Police said the man was hit near the on-ramp at about 12.20pm. The man driving the truck was taken to Nepean Hospital suffering shock. He will undergo mandatory blood and urine tests. Two city-bound lanes are closed to traffic and police and paramedics are on the scene. A single eastbound road remaining open has heavy traffic, and motorists are being advised to use Mulgoa Rd and the Great Western Hwy. https://www.perthnow.com.au/news/nsw/person-walking-on-m4-killed-by-truck-near-mulgoa-rd-ng-b0e0b7b196ae846e2f943512b4d0b399 TWO men and a woman plotted and then carried out a horrific murder on a bushy Queensland property, with the victim put through an industrial woodchipper, police say.
Police charged all three with murder and attempting to pervert the course of justice after arresting the trio in separate operations on Tuesday morning. Officers were initially told butcher Bruce Saunders, 54, accidentally fell into the chipper while clearing a friend's rural property at Goomboorian, near Gympie, on the night of November 12 last year. But in the days that followed, police received information suggesting foul play and by February, homicide detectives were on the case. On Tuesday, police swooped and allege the three worked together to hatch and execute the gruesome plot. The two men - Greg Roser, 58, of Deception Bay, and Peter Koenig, 61, of Gympie - briefly faced the Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Tuesday. A 57-year-old Gympie woman, who was arrested at Coolangatta on the Gold Coast, is facing the same charges. The portly, blonde woman was stooped and wearing dark glasses as she was led handcuffed into a police station ahead of her court appearance later in the day. Earlier, police told reporters they became suspicious about what had actually happened to Mr Saunders just days after he died, with information trickling in from the community. "We will be alleging that it wasn't an accident and that they did conspire together to commit this offence," Detective Inspector Gary Pettiford told reporters outside the Maroochydore police station. Detectives won't say if Mr Saunders was still alive when he was put into the machine. "I can't comment on that but the injuries he sustained were horrific as you could imagine being consumed by a woodchipper," he said, adding that he would not discuss the motive for the crime. Soon after Mr Saunders died, his former girlfriend Sharon Graham posted a tribute message beneath his online funeral notice. "He treated me like gold," Ms Graham wrote. "His love to me was bigger than anything in this world ... I'm so lost without you Bruce. No words can say what I'm feeling. Will always have you in my thoughts and heart. Rest in peace Bruce. But instead, five years later, Tiahleigh would die at the hands of her foster father after being molested by her 18-year-old foster brother. Rick Thorburn pleaded guilty to murder on Friday and will serve 20 years before being eligible for parole. In a confession letter, he claimed to have no memory of how he killed his young ward or the two-and-a-half years that followed. I was suffering through a very severe domestic violence situation, Cindy Palmer told 60 Minutes. So, I actually went to the department for help because I realised that one day I was just going to die and (she) was just going to be left there by (herself). I still firmly believe that the day I went to the department asking for help, I made the right decision. Its not what I wanted and it wasnt the outcome any of us wanted, but at the end of the day I thought it was the safer option. But life only got worse for Cindy after giving up her daughter, she said. At first, I was so devastated at being apart from her that I spiralled out of control, into drugs and homelessness. Cindy told the program shed had a bad feeling about the Thorburn family and was worried her daughter would be living with teenage boys. Straight away, I said no, she said. The first ever time that I met Rick, the first words that came out of his mouth were about how he was in a gang when he was younger and he was running guns and prostitutes. And he was proud of this. Family members have told police that Rick was prone to telling elaborate stories to impress people. Cindy said whether or not the story was true, it was inappropriate. Julene and Josh were jailed for their part in covering up the schoolgirls murder and Trent was jailed on a charge of incest. In recorded police interviews, Josh said his father showed no emotion after murdering Tiahleigh. He didnt cry. He seemed quite assured and defensive of what hed done and why hed done it. Obviously, it was to protect Trent, he said. Cindy said she had received abuse and even death threats over her decision to put her daughter in foster care. I didnt murder my daughter, she said. Ive worked really hard not to be that person anymore but I guess maybe it is a little bit of guilt because obviously I was meant to be a mother and I should have made better choices. https://www.perthnow.com.au/news/australia/cindy-palmer-tells-60-minutes-why-tiahleigh-was-given-up-to-the-foster-system-ng-6d41f862e5bf84a7474532c428324310 US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has called on Australia and other nations to help execute the Trump administration's tough new campaign to ensure Iran "has no path to a nuclear weapon - not now, not ever".
Pompeo, in his first major foreign policy speech since becoming secretary of state, on Monday used fiery language to outline America's strategy after US President Donald Trump earlier this month defied the wishes of Australia, France, Great Britain and other allies and pulled out of the Iran nuclear deal. He said the US was ready impose the "strongest sanctions in history" against Iran and listed 12 demands the regime must follow, including providing the International Atomic Energy Agency with unqualified access to all sites throughout Iran. "In the strategy we laid out today, we want the support of our most important allies and partners in the region and around the globe," Pompeo said in his address to the Heritage Foundation in Washington DC. "Certainly our European friends, but much more than that. "I want the Australians, the Bahrainis, the Egyptians, the Indians, the Japanese, the Jordanians, the Kuwaitis, the Omanis, the Qataris, the Saudi Arabians, South Korea, the UAE, and many, many others worldwide to join in this effort against the Islamic Republic of Iran. "I know that those countries share the same goals." Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull said on May 9 he regretted Mr Trump's decision to pull out of the 2015 Iran nuclear deal between Iran and the US, Britain, Russia, France, China and Germany. The deal, championed by former US president Barack Obama, lifted sanctions on trade with Iran in exchange for the slowing of the country's nuclear research and development program. Pompeo warned Iran "will be battling to keep its economy alive" when US sanctions come into force. The Trump administration's 12 demands are: * Iran must declare to the IAEA a full account of the prior military dimensions of its nuclear program, and permanently and verifiably abandon such work in perpetuity. * stop enrichment and never pursue plutonium reprocessing. * provide the IAEA with unqualified access to all sites throughout the entire country. * end its proliferation of ballistic missiles and halt further launching or development of nuclear-capable missile systems. * release all US citizens, and citizens of US partners and allies, detained in Iran on "spurious" charges. * end support to Middle East terrorist groups, including Lebanese Hezbollah, Hamas, and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad. * respect the sovereignty of the Iraqi Government and permit the disarming, demobilsation and reintegration of Shia militias. * end its military support for the Houthi militia and work towards a peaceful political settlement in Yemen. * withdraw all forces under Iranian command in Syria. * end support for the Taliban and other terrorists in Afghanistan and the region, and cease harbouring senior al-Qaeda leaders. * end the IRG Quds Force's support for terrorists and militant partners around the world. * end its threatening behaviour against its neighbours, including threatening to destroy Israel and firing missiles into Saudi Arabia and the UAE. https://www.perthnow.com.au/politics/donald-trump/us-calls-on-australia-to-pressure-iran-out-of-nuclear-weapons-program-ng-b88843974z 5/21/2018 0 Comments Zeta bar at The Hilton serving culinary cocktails using fresh NSW produce like corn and pearsSEEING duck fat, mushrooms and rosemary on a menu may conjure up thoughts of a hearty main meal, but at one city bar you'll find these ingredients on the drinks menu instead.

Since we first called for a fair go for the West, Project Sydney has given voice to communities often forgotten in the big debates about the future of our great city. State and federal governments have been responding to our Action Plan to improve equality across Sydney on hospitals, roads, education, rail and cultural facilities. What has been achieved so farWe pushed to secure a second airport at Badgerys Creek, move the Powerhouse to Parramatta, and invest in programs that would safeguard jobs for our youth and invest in big, city building projects. And the decision makers listened. Camera IconProject Sydney partners.Picture: The Daily TelegraphThis year, Premier Gladys Berejiklian announced the deadline for moving the Powerhouse Museum to Parramatta and opening its doors by 2023 despite noisy protests from the inner-city and the ALP. A significant upgrade for Riverside Theatre is also on the cards. But we will continue to push for more cultural and sporting gains for the region, including an upgrade to the Campbelltown Arts Centre and an outdoor venue at Parramatta Park. For the government to deliver on its promise to extend the popular Vivid light festival to Parramatta, for an upgrade to Campbelltown stadium. Many projects are half done. Project Sydney is not complete and The Daily Telegraph is pressing hard with our 2018 Action Plan. The landmark Western Sydney City Deal deal, signed between the Turnbull and Berejiklian governments and eight Western Sydney councils, has given wings to the Western Sydney Airport project. $100 million has been put aside for the detailed business case. Camera IconThe Vivid light festival will be brought to Parramatta.Picture: News Corp Australia, Destination NSWBut we want to see shovels on the ground within the next three years not enough money has been committed to get the ball rolling. A $5 billion pledge has put the North South Rail Link we demanded and a world-class Aerotropolis on track. But there is no plan to investigate the business case to take the rail all the way down to Campbelltown and crucially no rapid rail system yet funded between Parramatta and the airport. A big upgrade at Campbelltown Hospital has been unveiled but more needs to be done to improve nurse to patient ratios and upgrade Canterbury and Fairfield Hospitals. On the jobs front, progress has been made cutting the western Sydney youth jobs rate now the lowest in 20 years, coming in at 9.9 per cent on average. But this is still vastly higher than the national average. Blue Mountain train services are more frequent now, with revamped timetables, and a firm timeline has been given for the light rail link from Parramatta to Olympic Park to start in 2023. But commuters are still pulling their hair out over lack of parking at train stations especially in the rapidly growing north west. Similarly with the F6 Motorway south of Sydney. Its a case of some progress $50 million now allocated for planning the tunnel between Arncliffe and Kogarah but theyve skipped the next section that takes it down to the Sutherland Shire and beyond which will cause havoc for the local St George suburbs if not completed at the same time. Camera IconHousing affordability remains a major issue.Picture: AAPNor is there a firm timeline on the much needed M9 Orbital motorway. The growing cost of tolls has been softened with the introduction of a new scheme enabling people who spend more than $25 a week to get reductions on their car rego but the main burden still unfairly falls on our north west. And housing affordability remains a major social problem, including a lack of cheaper places for essential workers. The average speed of the flight on April 24, was 886 km/hr but the 787 reached a ground speed of 1020 km/hr over the Indian Ocean after leaving Perth. Last month the outbound flight, QF10 from London to Perth set a record of 15.45 minutes stripping an hour off the published time. The average speed for that journey was 938km/h but just before the descent into Perth, the plane was flying at a ground speed of 1114km/h. The typical cruise speed for a 787 is 900km/h. According to Flightradar24 the Qantas Perth to London and return service is now consistently beating the published schedule. According to travel agents, the Perth to London nonstop is proving popular and it is difficult to get premium seats. Reliability on the service is excellent with almost all flights leaving within 15 minutes of schedule but in virtually all cases any delay is picked up and the flight arrives ahead of time. Last month Qantas ordered six more Boeing 787-9s and these will see the retirement of the airlines last Boeing 747s, which have been part of the airlines fleet since 1971. The additional 787s are due to arrive between late 2019, when two will be delivered, and October, 2020. The additional planes will take Qantas Internationals 787 fleet to 14 by the end of that calendar year. This will allow for the accelerated retirement of its Boeing 747s, the last of which will now leave the fleet about October, 2020. The airline currently has 10 747-400s and took the last delivery in 2003. Qantas chief executive Alan Joyce said that if the London flight is a success the airline would look at a Perth-Paris nonstop by the end of next year. The next four 787s that the airline will take delivery of in the second half of this year are accounted for on flights to the US. After those deliveries, the airline is expected to get another four in the second half of next year. https://www.perthnow.com.au/news/aviation/speedy-qantas-quokka-breaks-flight-time-record-for-perth-to-london-route-ng-b88840876z 5/18/2018 0 Comments WA man arrested outside police station for drink driving on unregistered motorcycleThis police car is barely out of the station before nabbing a drunk driver on an unregistered pocket rocket.

Its a rule one WA man should have heeded when he was pulled over for driving an unlicensed pocket rocket motorcycle, without a helmet while drunk.
