2/28/2019 0 Comments 8 THINGS I LOVED IN JANUARY8 things I really loved in January (which helped get my year off to a great start!). 8 THINGS I LOVED IN JANUARY Itd be boring for me to ark on about how January went by in a flash. But I am definitely thinking that today as I see yet again that we have reached the 31st. In part, thanks to my choosing to take time off, I have only really been back in the swing of things for about a week and a half. Back in the swing of things though, is feeling pretty damn good. I hope that you are feeling the same way. Today, rather than talk too much about fashion or this super basic outfit I am wearing, I thought instead that Id share ten things that got me through this month. PODCASTS: Right, so, with the exception of a listen here and there, Id never really gotten into Podcasts. I suppose I didnt really know where to start with them and at any given chance, I tend to listen to music. Towards the end of last year, I had begun subscribing to more channels and finding some that gave me new ideas. My favourites have been The Goop Podcast (Im a bit of a Goop fan!) and How I Built This with Guy Raz (there are SO many interesting business stories!). I also listen to a number of Podcasts that interview creatives, founders of beauty companies and a few about the fashion blogger industry. If you are a blogger, you should be listening to or watching the Fohrvideos/podcasts A Drink with James. James Nord, founder ofFohris just my favourite. He cracks me up and keeps it real. Sometimes too real, but I kind of like that too! READING: Ive talked about this a lot but reading has really helped ground me again over the past couple of years. Getting back into that daily habit of reading helps me switch off and ultimately sleep better. Over the summer Ive read a heap of books! Currently, I am almost about to finish Gisele Bundchens autobiography Lessons. It has spoken to me about day to day life choices in a way that I didnt expect. Gisele talks about nutrition, meditation, knowing yourself and trusting in your own instincts. Maybe I was expecting some more stories about her modeling career but it all boils down to not giving into believing things other people say about you and making choices that work for you. BEAUTY: There are SOOOO many new beauty products that Ive been using, that I have filmed a new in video which I am yet to edit but will aim to post up next week. Namely, I had done a little Sephora haul, a Mecca shop and gotten in a bunch of beautiful Nars lip colours. GETTING BACK TO THE GYM: Despite the aches after the first few days, it has been so good to be back at the gym and back into an active routine. So far Ive been making an hour workout a day with a little bit of a yoga flow to stretch out. After eating Christmas foods and celebrating a lot with my family and friends over the break, I really noticed the more sluggish my metabolism had become. It isnt a great feeling! Its also been good to be home long enough to shop from the local farmers markets to make sure that our produce is full of the right nutrients I need. FRIENDSHIP: This is an obvious one! Who doesnt love having time with friends? Thanks to our trips to Adelaide and Sydney, I got to catch up with some friends. We were met by my best friend Irene for a long weekend in Sydney and it was just wonderful. The BEST way to start my year. Irene lives in Launceston, which is about 4000 kilometers away from Perth, just a little less than the distance between New York and LA. Hanging out was just what I needed, we had so much fun! GOLD JEWELLERY: Well, this is not a surprise either. I have a collection of gold pieces that I love to layer. Before Christmas, I was kindly given a selection from new brand Scada Australia. Since getting those, Ive barely worn anything else! I have the necklaces on above. WATCHING: Since the summer feels a little lazy, Ive been streaming shows like The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Grace & Frankie, Sex Education, Travel Man and The Good Place. So many! What have you guys been watching? LISTENING TO: On rotation, Ive been listening to the new Christine and the Queens album, Chris. Its so so good! Right, that is enough! I would love to hear what got you through your first month of the year. Please let me know below! Have you had a good start? Itd be great to hear where you are at. 2/27/2019 0 Comments A SUBTLE DATE NIGHT BEAUTY LOOKCreating a subtle date night beauty look with the Chanel Le Blanc 2019 collection Pierres de Lumiere releases. Perfect for a natural makeup look. MY 2019 VALENTINES BEAUTY LOOK Last week I went back into the Chanel Beauty boutique to try out the newChanel Le Blanc 2019 collection Pierres de Lumiere. It launched just in time for Valentines Day, which is what I had this look done for. Actually, we were a day early but since Mario and I had the afternoon free we had a late long lunch to celebrate. (Cue roses and delicious honey cake!) Below is the full look Zara from the Chanel Boutique in Claremont created for me, with a bold bright lip colour. By the time I got home and shot a few extra pictures, Id taken off the bold lip because Id wanted to see the look with a subtle nude shade. I loved either option but will share more of this bold lip outfit in another post. Either was a beautiful, subtle look for any date night. Oh and if you are now crazing honey cake, my bad! This was at The Flour Factory and it was amazing! Turn on your JavaScript to view content PIERRES DE LUMIERE Of theChanel Le Blanc 2019 collection Pierres de Lumiere releases, I was probably most taken by the White Opal highlight with a touch of the transparent Baume Essentiel on top. The White Opal is pearlescent and makes for a soft highlight. Because Zara and I always talk about beauty trends and what we have seen our favouritemakeup artists creating on Instagram, we decided to add a touch of gloss over the top too. New to Chanel and very on-trend is the two shades of Baume Essentiel. They are essentially a glossy balm to wear on your eyelids for that gloss finish, lips or highlight. Zara just used it along the top part of my cheekbone, where I usually highlight. It picked up really well on camera. A SUBTLE DATE NIGHT BEAUTY LOOK What can I say?! I was seriously impressed with the Tweed Beige blush!Which as the name suggests, is baked to look like the Chanel tweed. How cool is that? It has a shimmer through it so creates a beautiful light catching blush or bronzer. Since I am probably not going to be able to afford one of those insanely stunning Chanel tweed jackets anytime soon, this might be the closest I get! For the pretty, subtle eye look, Zara used a cream eyeshadow in Pierre de Rose and the Quadra Palette 314 Lueurs Ambrees. The bold orangey-red matte liquid lip colourRouge Allure Ink in Cornalie is fresh and felt vibrant with the subtle eye-look. It reminds me a bit of the So Chaud Mac Matte lipstick without being as drying. And the Rouge Allure Ink lasted for our long lunch too, so I was very impressed! Finally, with the release of two new nail colours in a subtle shimmer, I had to buy theshare Eau de Nacre. It reminded me so much of something my Nana would have worn. You guys already know I miss her so its nice to be reminded of her when I look down at my hands. MY NEXT SPLURGE WILL BE One very cool thing that Zara did while she was doing my eye makeup was pop on some of the uber cool eye patches under my eyes. I wish Id snapped a mirror pic of how cool these look on! You may have seen them on Pinterest. They are the Firming Anti-Wrinkle Flash Eye Revitaliser. These also come with a roll-on anti-agingserum with a whole lot of vitamin-C to reduce dark circles and puffiness in all of about five minutes. I have to save up for these!! Anyway, what did you do for Valentines Day? Is it something you celebrate? We ended up working on the actual day but later had a really nice homemade dinner by candlelight outside. With one of my Spotify playlists in the background, it was so nice. Id rather stay in than battle crowded restaurants on Valentines Day. Would love to hear your thoughts or rituals! Introducing the beaded bag. The on-trend vintage-inspired bag style that updates your outfits. THE BEADED BAG By now, you might have figured that I love a good bag to add a little something-something to any outfit. You might have also noticed I tend to shy away from bags with flashy designer logos. Opting more for a subtle finish, I love unique hardware but I am also a fan of anything vintage or heritage-inspired. The beaded bag is a perfect example of this. While my favourites come from UKmega-cool brand Shrimps, there are some affordableoptions flooding the market too. Ive found a bunch for under $50 below, ranging up to the luxury options. SHRIMPS This stunning, light-catching black Shrimps bag was one I managed to pick up on sale from Shopbop, after watching it very closely. Id be surprised if you havent seen the pearl versions of this bag on Instagram over the past year, particularly during fashion week. While I was very tempted by the pearl white option, black ultimately won as I feel like Id seen it less. There are also a bunch of colours exclusive on MatchesFashion in this bag, in navy, ruby red and green. They are all super dreamy and linked below. < THE EDIT UNDER $50 > Turn on your JavaScript to view content < SHOP THE LUXE EDIT > Turn on your JavaScript to view content A NEW TEXTILE TO MIX AND MATCH WITH Now, of course, I have a new go-to bag to take with me for events or something where I want a little eye-catching accessory. Though, to be honest, I have been using my little beaded bag beauty at every chance Ive had! Its super cute with a slip dress and sandals, or similarly, a slip skirt and tee. Ive carried it while wearing jeans and a button-down shirt and plan to carry it into autumn with my coats and jeans looks. Somehow, though it is a bit extra, it also feels like a textile that goes with anything too. Its fun to mix up with cotton, leather, faux fur or wool. Speaking of which, I am sooootempted by this wool coat from Acne Studios for winter. Should I?? Help! While we were in Sydney last month I called into Lucy Folks Bondi store Playa and there was a very cute yellow and pink bag in the window. Ive since seen it on sale on Shopbop so if anyone is looking for an adorable beaded bag, go take a peek at the Lucy Folk collection!! Gah, they are all just so fun and cute! What do you guys think? So, after we landed in Sydney, we jumped into a hire car and drove straight up north to the Central Coast. After an hour or so, we pulled in for some lunch in one of the sleepy seaside towns. It was already warming up and I understood more and more what the humidity Sydney is known for in summer is really like. Ive visited before but never really felt that. At once I understood the need for relaxed, oversized cuts that Bohemian Traders is so well known for. I was so excited to stay at Emily and Daves guest house. It is a remote, dream spot that has graced magazine covers as its often featured or used as a shoot location. We briefly had a chance to meet Emily as we pulled up and made plans for dinner that night at their local, Yellowtail. Their guest house was seriously dreamy. Ill share a bit of a tour over on Instagram and you will see it in some of the posts we shot there, the first is up here. COMPLETELY INSPIRING WIT Dinner was so much fun, Dave and Emily are both wonderful. I cant even begin to explain how inspired I felt talking to them and learning of how they built the company from one small idea into this brand that now employs a staff of 17. Furthermore, how they achieve a work, family life balance managing to spend quality time with theirthree beautiful kids. That inspiration just grew and grew the next day as we visited the Bohemian Traders HQ. It was so awesome for me to meet the team and check out the collections to come in the design space. While Im not going to spoil the surprise, I can tell you that there are absolutely beautiful pieces to come this year. I loaned a bunch of samples to shoot that afternoon, some I can not wait to share with you! Ive got two little sneak peeks below. 2/24/2019 0 Comments A SUMMER BERRY MAKEUP LOOKPretty tones for a summer berry makeup look and somefavourite recent additions to my beauty drawer. A SUMMER BERRY MAKEUP LOOK Today I just wanted to share a quick little beauty update since it has been foooooreeeeeverrrrsince I had! Plus, Ive been doing a few mini shops at both Mecca and Sephora lately, so I have some new favourites to share. Actually, I filmed a video with these last week that I will edit and pop up soon. That video goes into more depth on the things Ive been using. Follow me on YouTube here to stay up to date. Above, I put together a summer berry makeup look inspired in part by the abundance of fresh berries Ive been eating and the products Ill go into below. BOBBI BROWN CRUSHED LIP COLOUR After a surprisedelivery last week with three of the new Bobbi Brown Crushed Lip Colour Balms (I was kindly gifted these), Ive been testing them out daily. They are liquid lipsticks that feel comfortable and effortless while delivering a saturated punch of colour. They come in fourteen shades, are Paraben, Phthalate, Sulphite, Talc, Mineral Oil and Gluten-freeand vegan. I love that they feel like wearing a balm, with a non-stick gloss finish. They remind me if anything of the Nars Lip Glosses (of which I have a small collection, I love them!) but areless sticky. I was gifted Hippy Shake, a pale pink tone, Give a Fig which is more like an everyday hue and Cool Beets, a darker beetroot/ berry tone. Ill end up wearing Give a Fig the most, it is a good go-to shade. However, as you can see from my final look above I decided to create a summer berry makeup look before heading out the other night using Cool Beets. TOO FACEDJUST PEACHY VELVET MATTE PALETTE Now, this is one that I feel like Ive possibly talked about already, or should have since I have barely wanted to use any other shadow palette since I got it! Toward the end of last year, I bought this Too Faced iconic palette from Mecca Maxima. I can honestly say Ive not even scratched the surface of the colour options I want to create with this beautiful palette! The twelve highly pigmented shades are all so pretty, I just love playing around with them. Of course, this palette also has the extra drawcard of being peach scented which is so addictive! haha given they are now in season too, Ive been eating more peaches than I have in years, no doubt sparked by constantly smelling the palette. While it has the pretty peach shades, it comes with berry tones, buttery creams, and browns that compliment as perfect neutrals.Formulated without parabens, sulfates & phthalates, this palette is just a dream. Inspired by the berry tone of the Cool Beets Crushed Liquid Lip, I ended up creating a look with Chocolate Dipped, Peach Sangria, and Just Peachy. (These are all swatched together below). They also went perfectly with my all time favouriteblush- Nars Orgasm. Its the perfect glowy, peachy hue but this time I only applied it lightly. DRUNK ELEPHANT D-BRONZE ANTI-POLLUTION SUNSHINE DROPS When I went into Mecca Cosmetica last, it took all of about 30 seconds to convince me to drop the $ on this one! haha In a move dangerous to my bank account, I didnt go in looking for a tanning drop style product but somehow walked out with one. My first foray into Drunk Elephant, a skincare brand Ive had friends swear to me has transformed their skin, I was really keen to give this one a go. Since Im trying to use up a lot of the skincare products I own before buying any new double ups, this was one of the only Drunk Elephant products I could safely say I didnt have anything like in my cupboard. So, what the heck is it? The highly concentrated serum drops are formulated to be blended with a moisturiser, primer or foundation to add a bit of glow and boost of protective antioxidants. Enriched with omega-rich virgin marula and black currant seed oil, as well as vitamin F, the serum supports the healthy barrier function of the skin in combating environmental stressors. Ive worn it mixed with moisturiser when I am popping down to the gym if I want a little glow or blended with my foundation for extra colour during the day. Not really an essential to have on hand but I tell you what, I havent gone a day without using it since I got it. < SHOP THE POST > Turn on your JavaScript to view content WHAT ARE YOUR BEAUTY GO-TOS AT THE MOMENT? This really just only scratches the surface of things I have been loving lately, so Ill make sure to update again soon with skincare, fragrance and hair care. In the meantime, I would love to know what you are using and loving or have tried and didnt really like lately? Let us know below. Which of the Crushed Liquid Lip Colours did you like the most? Got any requests for beauty looks I should try? Im feeling a little more experimental, so let me know. Take a graphic tee of your choice and mix and match with classic staples for an easy style formula. Any time of the year, I can wear these and know I am put together and feel confident. DENIM All kinds of denim come with me on any of my travels. I probably reach for a denim bottom too often, but it works, I feel comfortable and they are my staples. Skirts, shorts, jeans of all cuts, it all works the same way. BOOTS Even in summer (and on 40 degree days), I am a boots girl. Always will be. These Isabel Marant boots were also a Christmas present and Iam so in love with the classic low heel and pointed toe. Black boots are again my staples, so naturally, make it into my formula. I am loving all of the amazing western style boots around at the moment. Drool! GOLD NECKLACES The thing about graphic tees is that adding layers of gold necklaces over the top make them feel less casual. Once I have popped them on, I feel more put together and I feel like they easily add personality to an outfit. Particularly if you have collected each one and they come with a bit of a story. FAVE BAG I couldnt leave out a killer bag to tie the look together. My dream bag from Proenza Schouler has just the right amount of mixed metals to tie in the stud details on my boots with the gold jewelry. Of course, I could really wear any bag with this look, given it is pretty simple. CLASSIC SUNGLASSES Again, I am just reaching for my old faithfuls here, these are the classic Ray-Bans I wear the most, as they feel cool with anything. Classics for a reason. 2/22/2019 0 Comments THE LITTLE BLACK SUMMER DRESSTHE LITTLE BLACK SUMMER DRESS
In part, because they were on top of my suitcase but mostly because I absolutely love them, Ive been wearing little dresses all summer on my travels. Little black summer dresses, little white summer dresses, printed silk dresses I can honestly say my suitcase was full of them. It makes getting dressed pretty easy! In trying to beat the heat and occasional humidity, I turned to this little black summer dress by LOVESHACKFANCY. Made of cotton, its so comfortable, breathable and super cute! Id been collecting little white dresses from LOVESHACKFANCY but I am so glad I got a black one. You can style a little black dress so many ways and you need not worry about spilling anything. Haha, this is obviously something I think about if Im about to pull on one of my white dresses! BLACK ON BLACK FAVES While you will see me repeat this dress in some posts to come- again, it was on top of my suitcase, this time I paired it with my new ChloRylee boots. I gotta say, I am obsessed with them! Which officially means I am wearing all of my current favourites in this one outfit. Black on black makes things pretty easy but of course I could always add colour. 2/20/2019 0 Comments ON WEARING WHITE ON WHITEON WEARING WHITE ON WHITE
One thing I realise I have a lot of hanging in my wardrobe is white tops and shirts. I love wearing them with jeans, but I usually reach for my classic blue jeans before anything else. White jeans? While they are something I have in there somewhere, I never wear them. White on white is such a fresh look that I think can work equally in summer and in cooler months. To be fair, I dont tend to feel 100% comfortable in white jeans because I feel like they make my thighs look bigger and frankly, it makes me uncomfortable. Should I really care? Not so much. The truth of the matter is that some bodies come with slight thighs and others are different. My hang-upsare my own and I just have to feel confident. In general, if there is an area I feel less confident about, I try to dress to make that area less in your face. Today, however, I am clearly giving white jeans a go and I actually like this look. These straight cut boyfriend style jeans are a good compromise, not drawing too much attention to my thigh area. The distressed detail makes it just relaxed enough. So relaxed that I didnt bother with shoes.
