EVEN by the standards of Perth and sporting venue prices it seemed frighteningly steep: could a meat pie at Optus Stadium really be going for $12?
The short answer, apparently is no. The world hasnt gone crazy and no Mrs Macs meals for one are not going for double-digit dollars but those photos youve been seeing on social media likely arent doctored either. Stadium officials have confirmed there were some brief issues this morning at the Australian v England one-dayer with display screens that showed beef pies at $12 and sausage rolls at $10.50. Camera IconThe signage issue that had Perth stadium-goers concerned this morning.Picture: Supplied. But they say the situation was quickly rectified and that no customer was ever charged that amount for the grub. As noted, a giveaway to the glitch might have been a difference of nearly $5 between the plain beef pie and the one featuring bacon and cheese as well. For the record, according to Optus Stadium officials, the actual prices of pies, sausage rolls and other pastry products are as follows: Beef pie - $5.20 Giant sausage roll - $5.20 Beef, cheese and bacon pie - $5.50 Spinach and ricotta roll - $5.50 Bacon and cheese sausage roll - $5.50 And they maintain the pricing structure at the new venue is comparable with other stadiums around the country: Which is not to say todays opening of Perths shiny new piece of sporting infrastructure went entirely to plan. Apart from the signage issue which gained predictable traction on Facebook and Twitter there was also some angst about queue lengths for food and some bars running dry on beer. One of our readers didnt think too highly of his fish burger, either. But for every complaint and example of a teething problem there were (at times!) just about as many compliments for a venue that has been touted as world-class in the lead-up to the grand opening. Not to mention the first hurdle the stadium had to overcome to start the day fans getting accustomed to driving to games having to get there by public transport instead. By most accounts, it went fairly smoothly. Public transport was running smoothly for the thousands of fans who flocked to Optus Stadium for the One Day International game. Now, they just need to do something about the spelling of Marcus Stoinis name! https://www.perthnow.com.au/sport/perth-stadium/hungry-optus-stadium-crowd-outraged-at-12-pies-ng-b88727296z

The Herald Sun has reported a home-and-away fixture of 14 games per club is likely in 2018-19 to coincide with a new BBL broadcast rights deal. A bidding war is expected to erupt, with the $20 million a season Network Ten pays now tipped to triple. Camera IconKevin Pietersen has implored CA not to mess with the Big Bash formula.Picture: Getty ImagesBut crowds and TV ratings this season have declined, while the number of one-sided matches and dead-rubbers have risen. Pietersen said overseas stars could not afford to migrate to Australia for an extended season. I worry about the expansion of the league, Pietersen said. I worry from an overseas players perspective. I worry about it from an overseas coaching perspective. COMMENT: Is Big Bash headed for a Big Crash? Can you afford to spend two and a half months as a coach in Australia? Im not so sure. I love the Big Bash for what it is now in the school holidays. Four clubs employ overseas coaches Pietersens Stars (Stephen Fleming, New Zealand), Brisbane Heat (Dan Vettori, New Zealand), Hobart Hurricanes (Gary Kirsten, South Africa) and Sydney Thunder (Paddy Upton, South Africa). Stars captain John Hastings and Renegades veteran Brad Hodge urged Cricket Australia to retain the 10-match format used this summer. Camera IconBrad Hodge says the 10-match format is perfect for the players.Picture: Getty ImagesIf youre in administration you want the extra games, TV rights and so forth, Hodge said. But as a player this could be right. Ive played a lot of Twenty20 around the world and generally you feel its always a week too long, no matter how many games there are. If you stretch it out I think the overseas playing group will be tested as well. If youre starting to ask players to come for two or three months itll test the quality of player. Theres a few things to nut out before you go down that path. Hastings said the dip in interest this season was enough evidence to rule out expansion. Keeping it at 10 games is probably the way to go for now and just really building up that fan base and building up that viewership again over the next few years, Hastings said. The TV rights deal is up next year, so itll be interesting to see what happens with that. If they want more games then well have to go down that path. Renegades import Dwayne Bravo labelled the scheduling crazy as his team was lumped with a 10-day break between matches. If I was to change anything its too long, Bravo told the Herald Sun. Youre playing (10) games and staying six or seven weeks. If Cricket Australia fixtures a full home-and-away season next summer that would see an extra 24 matches added in two years. But Stars chief executive Clint Cooper backed a 14-round home-and-away season, saying that would create a fairer competition. https://www.perthnow.com.au/sport/big-bash-league/kevin-pietersen-has-warned-ca-to-avoid-temptation-of-extending-big-bash-league-season-ng-858c93c1111696f83a5a62ecd8f6506f 1/25/2018 0 Comments Train derails near Milan, Italy, leaving a number of people dead and hundreds injuredTWO people have died and about 110 are injured, including 10 in a critical condition, in a commuter train crash near Milan.

Seven News tonight revealed a bombshell breakthrough in the case of the missing Beaumont children, 52 years after the three siblings disappeared from a beach in Adelaide, disclosing a new dig site at North Plympton near where Jane, 9, Arnna, 7, and Grant, 4, went missing at Glenelg beach in 1966. Police first dug at the site in 2013 after details were published in a book titled The Satin Man, in which a man claimed his father, who turned out to be local businessman Harry Phipps, had killed the children. Camera IconExcavation at Castalloy, North Plympton, where it is believed the Beaumont children may have been buried. Police will revisit the site in coming weeks.Picture: News LimitedPhipps was not named in the book but it gave enough information for people to identify him. A group of young men also came out and said Mr Phipps, who died in 2004, asked them to dig a trench at his manufacturing business factory, Castalloy. Police dug it up in 2013 but found nothing. But a Seven News investigation has revealed an anomaly was discovered in another spot at the site an area of disturbed earth just two weeks ago, through the use of a ground penetrating radar. As of Monday night, the factory is a crime scene. Camera IconThe Beaumont childrens disappearance sparked one of the largest scale police investigations in Australian history.Picture: SuppliedDetectives from the Major Crime Investigation branch will conduct a new excavation of the property in coming weeks. The Beaumont children disappearance case sparked one of the largest police investigations in the countrys history. Clues as to what happened to the siblings have continued to surface since their disappearance from Glenelg Beach on Australia Day 1966, but leads have always led to dead ends. Sightings of the children at Glenelg on the day they disappeared put them in the company of a tall, blond and thin-faced man with a suntan. In late 2016, South Australian Police identified a 71-year-old former Adelaide scout leader as a person of interest in the mystery. Millionaire bar owner and convicted paedophile Anthony Munro is in jail for unrelated child sex offences in South Australia dating back to 1962 four years before the Beaumonts vanished. Camera IconDetective Superintendent Des Bray and Detective Senior Sergeant David Sheridan pictured in 2016 with the previously unseen first report file on the missing Beaumont children. Picture: Campbell Brodie.Picture: News Corp AustraliaPolice interviewed Munro in June 2016 about Australias greatest child abduction mystery after a childs diary said he was at Glenelg beach in the days surrounding the Beaumont childrens disappearance. The salvage and exploration club diary was kept by one boy, and contributed to by another, tracking their adventures diving off the Adelaide coast that summer. Police have previously said there is no evidence linking Munro to the disappearance of the Beaumont children. Another man who was linked to their deaths, Munros friend Allan Max McIntyre, died in a nursing home on the Yorke Peninsula west of Adelaide June last year, aged in his late 80s. His son, Andrew McIntyre, who was sexually abused by Munro, broke his silence last year revealing his father and Munro were frequenting Glenelg beach in the days around the disappearance of the three children. Camera IconA site location photo of where the children went missing at Glenelg. Picture Campbell Brodie.Picture: News Corp AustraliaHighly regarded detective Stanley Swaine, who died in 2002, was widely discredited following his retirement from the South Australian police force, but his obsession with the case continued well into his second career as a private investigator. Mr Swaine wlead the case from 1967 when the Beaumont parents believed their children could still be alive. He notoriously made an abortive trip with Jim Beaumont to Melbourne to investigate letters written by a person who claimed to know where the children were and that they were well-looked after. In 1996, after the 30th anniversary of the childrens disappearance, Mr Swaine made the outrageous claim that he had found a 40-year-old Canberra woman who was Jane Beaumont. He said all three Beaumont children had been taken and raised by a satanic cult. Camera IconJane and Arnna Beaumont with a friend on the beach.Picture: SuppliedWeeks before he died, Mr Swaine made another claim about the Beaumont children to a journalist, saying he knew where they were buried and that a priest had told him it was in a church cemetery in Adelaide. https://www.perthnow.com.au/lifestyle/new-dig-site-in-relation-to-missing-beaumont-children-to-be-excavated-within-weeks-ng-b26128d6f628b4372a6e133540003a76 Published on Nov 20, 2014
