3/31/2019 0 Comments NEW IN FROM MECCA COSMETICAConfessions of a Mecca Beauty Junkie! An updated best buys from Mecca Cosmetica and Mecca Maxima rundown. Hope you are up for a beauty update! I have been working on some haul type of posts to share across skincare, makeup and hair care from Mecca, Sephora and Adore Beauty. Ill keep rolling them out bit by bit. I didnt exactly go crazy in one swoop and actually haul, but Ive bought quite a lot of bits and pieces lately that I want to share. Below, Ive included some of my Mecca classic favourite buys that I am still using and discovering new things about. Some Ive talked about before but wanted to reshare. There are plenty of new products too. PSA: MECCALAND TICKETS ARE ON SALE NOW Just quickly, Mecca has just released ticket sales for MeccaLand, for May in Sydney. THIS IS NOT A DRILL! So what is it? MeccaLand is a huge beauty festival. It launched in Melbourne last year and is back for round two from the 17 19 May 2019. Over 40 global brands will be featured including Too Faced, Nars, Hourglass, Urban Decay, Drunk Elephant, Mario Badescu, Mecca Max and Isle of Paradise. The festival will feature five immersive worlds so there will be something for everyone. Plus there is an insane line up of special guests including industry superstars, celebrity make-up artists, brand founders and of course beauty it guys and gals. The schedule includes discussion panels and lessons from the best. I just sent in an RSVP for the media launch so now Ive gotta get by butt over to Sydney in May. It will be incredible to have the access to learn so much, meet and greet and of course, try a slew of new products. This post isnt at all sponsored by Mecca, I just thought given the timing Id post this Mecca products update first so I could tell you Sydney-siders to buy your MeccaLand tickets! The will sell fast! NARS The fact that Nars is my favourite cosmetics brand should not surprise anyone whos been following me for a while. Ive recently partnered with them (see this on Instagram @inspiringwit if you missed it) (I AM SO LUCKY!) to try their concealer, eyeshadow palette and find my perfect foundation match. It was great timing for me because I had just run out of the Sheer Glow foundation and Id thought my shade was a bit dark. SHEER GLOW FOUNDATION Ill go as far as to say Nars Sheer Glow is my favourite foundation. I also love the La Mer foundation and recently got some from The Ordinary but ultimately, Nars wins. Now that the range has 34 shades, I tried three more to get the right match for me. Im now wearing it in Punjab. Sheer Glow delivers not only that shade range but a light coverage that doesnt look too baked, cakey or full and results in glowing skin. It works for me so Ive stuck to it. RADIANT CREAMY CONCEALER A new one to me. Ive worn YSL Touche clat for Y-E-A-R-S and only otherwise dabbled with bareminerals BareSkin Concealer. The Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer is my new go-to. I got it in a few shades to try and can either use it in the shade Crme Brle or Custard, depending on where I use it. SKIN DEEP EYE PALETTE This limited edition palette is made up of four larger matte shades and satin, shimmer and metallic neutral and nude shades. I can not honestly say Ive scratched the surface of what I could do with this palette. There are so many beautiful shades and combinations that I could play around with! I love the warm tones and deeper browns. Its the only thing I packed on a recent trip to Sydney, skipping eyeliner. I love it for every day, for a smokey eye and even more of a copper smokey eye. AUDACIOUS LIPSTICK I have a few of the Audacious Lipstick colours and will wear whichever suits my mood, so rather than go into a particular shade I thought Id mention the formula. The pigment is strong and bold. Its creamy but with a satiny sheen finish. Ill turn to one of these mostly if I want a more eye-catching and strong colour. Its less chalky than a Charlotte Tilbury lipstick too, which I also love but find the Nars more comfortable to wear. BONUS TIP: ASK FOR HELP AT MECCA My introduction to Nars was through Mecca when I had my makeup done years ago. Even now, if I want to try to colour match or test anything out, the Mecca staff are great. I go in and ask for help and before I know it I find myself in the makeup chair while they run through a product with me, test it on me and always give me more tips. I should write a blog post on the makeup and hair tips Ive gotten over the years! Dont be afraid to ask questions. You can even book in for lessons. I love Mecca! Where were you when I was younger?! RMS I just listened to a podcast interview with Rose-Marie Swift, founder of RMS Beauty and I have to say, I kind of fell more in love with the brand knowing her story and hearing her honest voice. Of course, Ive found myself in a rabbit hole watching YouTube videos with her too. And, needless to say, I have a crazy long wish list of RMS products. Two that Ive had for a while now and have mentioned again and again are the Lip2Cheek pot in Beloved and the Eye Polish in Lunar. I actually use Lunar on my highlight spots all the time, maybe more than I do as eye shadow! Its such a pretty sheen without being too much! The Lip2Cheek blush is beautiful. Im obsessed. It is creamy, which I sometimes prefer to powder blush. The RMS pigments are so bang on without compromising in the chemicals used. If you are interested in natural beauty, go to RMS. BONUS TIP: LISTEN TO PODCASTS Lately, in the early evenings, Ive been walking a lot, rather than mindlessly scrolling through my phone with TV in the background. I pop on my headphones, clock up my step count for the day and listen to some pretty interesting podcasts. Beauty podcasts are always a great way to learn about the founder of a brand or about the companies practices. I listen to Breaking Beauty, Glow Journal, The Glossy Beauty Podcast, The Dream Bigger Podcast and many more. If you do the same, please send me your recommendations! Who should I subscribe to? URBAN DECAY If Im not wanting to see a crease in my lid, I use the Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion. I dont bother all the time but its a handy product if I am putting makeup on in the morning and need it to last all day. DRUNK ELEPHANT My intro into Drunk Elephant has been through D-Bronzi Anti-Pollution Sunshine Drops. I talked about them in my last beauty blog post here. Another month on, I am still loving it so I thought Id drop it in here and give it a mention. Ive also just tried a new brand and product to me, the Vita Liberata Beauty Blur in Latte. The two are not at all the same sort of product but I love that one, so will give it a quick mention and go into it more soon. Its a primer in a way that adds a little bit of bronze too. Let me know if you have tried. Im super excited about it! TOO FACED Too Faced just release the most fun collections. Their Peach range is my favourite, by a long shot. However, in the sales last year I ordered the Semi-Sweet Chocolate Bar Eye Shadow Palette and have been using it every week since. More so than the Urban Decay palettes. Which is saying something!! Id been using those non-stop for years. The shades are great for every day, you can do a smokey eye or a nude or a buttery warm neutral look. The tin is very sturdy too, no velvet casing that gets dirty (ahem, Urban Decay). And yes, they do smell like a milk chocolate block and put you in a sweet mood. MECCA COSMETICA Always the same, I restock and have been doing so for years, Mecca Cosmetica have some of the best performing products. Though I talked about them in the Mecca Cosmetica Favourites blog post in 2017, Ive included a couple of my favourites again here. The To Save Face Superscreen and Soft Focus Smoothing Primer have served me well for years and I havent found anything else that comes close to priming or protecting my face as well as these. Not pictured, but excellent as well, the Mecca Cosmetica Enlightened Lit From Within Powder is still better than most highlighters Ive tried in powder form from bigger name luxury brands. Its excellent. MECCA MAX Vegan and budget friendly, Mecca Max is the affordable line from Mecca. The first thing I ordered from Mecca Max was the Banana Bake Skin Filter.I use it lightly to finish off my makeup look a subtly correct under my eyes. In the after Christmas sales, I went out for a shop with my Mum and almost came home empty-handed. This was prior to my detour into the Mecca Maxima store, naturally. On the sale section shelves, I picked up the Mecca Max setting spray and Galactic Gloss. The gloss is clearly a departure for me from any other lip colour in my collection- theres nothing about it that says no makeup-makeup! Actually, it kind of reminds me of a unicorn horn. Both products were under $10 so maybe I was just getting a little caught up in the moment. However, I have been using the spray since and am happy with it. Its not available at the moment so watch out if they release a new setting spray in the future. As for the gloss? Its a light capturing final touch if I want even a little bit added to the center of my lips. NOT ALL ARE CREATED EQUALLY I will say, that not all Mecca Max products Ive tried have worked for me. The Kiss And Tell Plumping Lip Mask was so bad. Literally, I wasted the $7 on that one! It had not serum, broke right away and kept falling off of my lips while I tried to have it on for 20 minutes. I saw no difference, so it was a bust. Friends have told me they werent happy with the Mecca Max sponges/ blenders but Ive not tried them. You cant win them all! So, live in Sydney? Are you keen to go to MeccaLand? If you are going, please let me know! If you have tried any new products or any of the things Ive talked about, drop me a line below. Im always keen to hear what works for you, as so often it is different than what works for me. Plus, I love when you guys get me onto a new product or brand that Ive never tried. There are some very cool new styles out too. Shop some of them below: Turn on your JavaScript to view content STATEMENT TOPS I love a statement top or tee. This is largely thanks to my affinity with low-key bottoms like jeans or a slip-skirt. And if I am honest, my love for those has more than a bit to do with being comfortable. Turn on your JavaScript to view content COOL SHOES So while I often pair my outfits with designer shoes that cost more than Id like to admit I paid for them (but ALWAYS bought on SALE!) I love cool shoes that are high quality and dont cost the earth. Turn on your JavaScript to view content EYE_CATCHING ACCESSORIES My number one way to make a comfortable look seem chicer? The answer lies in the accessories. A good comfortable but interesting shoe choice or bag with an eye-catching detail makes all the difference. I am loving tortoiseshell, pink and animal print details at the moment. Turn on your JavaScript to view content REPEAT WEAR BOTTOMS I can either match everything back with classic jeans or a skirt. It keeps it simple and I love how comfortable I feel in them. No fuss and perfect to repeat wear. As always, all styling and opinions my own. http://www.inspiringwit.com/under-200-fashion-finds/ Seven pieces to build a transeasonal capsule wardrobe from one of my favourite Australian labels Aje. Turn on your JavaScript to view content 7 PIECES FOR A TRANSEASONAL AJE CAPSULE WARDROBE Recently over on Instagram (@inspiringwit) you may have caught a little behind the scenes of a shoot I did with Aje at their Claremont Quarter store. Though this post wasnt requested, I ended up loving the photos. The store is beautiful (actually, all of the Aje stores around Australia have a beautiful fit out). So, since I found so many beautiful pieces in their current collection, I thought Id put together this capsule post. Aje is one of those stunning high-quality Australian brands that have gone from strength to strength. Their pieces are so wearable, it is easy to see why so many women are loyal to them. Be it for logo tees, leather mini skirts or jackets or event dresses, I see women wearing Aje all the time. You might recall my many outfits with their leather mini skirts (I have one in black and one in tan), they go with everything! The following edit features 7 Aje pieces including accessories that form a transeasonal capsule wardrobe that is both on trend but easily become classic staples. THE BLAZER This stunning blazer above caught my eye right away. The belt buckle and gold buttons set it apart from any other blazer and instantly elevate it to a unique, high-end piece. Worn here as a dress, this one is so versatile. This fabric comes in matching high-waist pants or a mini skirt, so you can wear it as a suit or on its own. Versatility is everything when it comes to creating a capsule wardrobe, you want key pieces to mix and match and wear over and over. A blazer is one of the first things I think of when creating elegant outfits. Even worn over jeans, a blazer is instantly chic. Turn on your JavaScript to view content THE BLOUSE + LEATHER SKIRT + SHOULDER BAG I loooooove a white shirt or blouse or tee. They easily take up the largest section in my wardrobe because I like options. At the moment I have really been into a statement sleeve detail and loved this beautiful soft blouse instantly. Another versatile piece to wear with pants and skirts or under a slip dress, the blouse is second on my capsule list. Since I love their leather mini skirts, the knee length version is a beautiful piece for the transeasonal weather. Chic, elegant and a little bit rock and roll this is an investment that will remain a classic for years. Actually, I have a vintage leather pencil skirt or two that Ive turned to for years. See evidence from an old blog post back here. A shoulder bag is my first key capsule wardrobe accessory. Particularly a black one, that can accommodate a phone, cards, lipsticks, sunglasses and keys. This one can fit more of course, but those are my size requirements. I love this stunning statement black beading which instantly adds something to any outfit without taking all the limelight. Clever, no? Turn on your JavaScript to view content THE CABLE KNIT + ESPADRILLES + MIDI SKIRT If you ever wanted proof that I love knitwear, it might be in the sheer number of photos I edited of me wearing this dreamy blush cable knit. In all honesty, this piece was the first I would purchase in this capsule wardrobe edit. But, as you can guess, I have A LOT of knitwear! I love black midi skirts, this one is in the capsule because it actually doubles as a little black dress too. The waistband has a stretch detailing so it can be worn across the bust. This is exactly what I was talking about in relation to versatility. The ruffles are timeless, itd be beautiful with a silk cami, blazer and heels or simply a tee and sneakers. Speaking of shoes, no capsule wardrobe would be complete without a comfortable, versatile shoe. I love an espadrille, so I instantly loved these Aje signature espadrilles. The leather straps and stud details make it a little bit extra, but the colour goes with everything. Id wear them all the time, so they naturally fit into a capsule. Turn on your JavaScript to view content Let me know what you think of these informative posts. Im thinking Ill do a few more, answering some of the common questions I get asked. This weekend I filmed a bunch of styling videos to share on IGTV, the first is up now, Id love to hear your feedback. The first one is four ways to style a black slip dress. Somehow, which was a challenge to me, I styled 8 videos without using black skinny jeans or classic denim jeans. It surprised me how easy this was! Looking forward to your thoughts! Thanks, guys! SBS, 8.30pm Whether in news reporting, garbled online fantasies, or popular culture's reflective gaze, the end of the civilised world as we know it from one or more cataclysmic occurrences is now an incessant theme. For doomsday preppers particularly in America it's a belief, a business, and a break from reality all in one convulsive shift in perspective. Dropping her g's but not her sceptical curiosity, English television presenter, journalist and author Stacey Dooley visits various families and communities who are preparing for, or already isolated from, a forthcoming apocalyptic event. Beginning with a chaotic rural enclave in Colorado, she chats with preppers, teasing out ideas and sometimes the underlying paranoia. "You're living every day thinking it could be now," Dooley says to one matriarch, and what the narrative dwells on is a peculiarly American mindset of seeing risk in their strength and a belief in chaos being moments away; "investigating" via YouTube certainly hasn't helped these people. As human interest it's intriguing, but Dooley sticks to working- and middle-class preppers, despite the ultra-wealthy having their own preparations. A few probing questions for tech moguls who own converted nuclear missile silos, but also control the various levers that palpably add to this very fear, would have been welcome. Louis Theroux and his crew ride along with police in Milwaukee.Credit:Freddie Claire Manhunt Seven, 9pm Told, like the murder investigation it documents, with methodical precision, this depiction of how London's Metropolitan Police pursued the killer of French student Amelie Delagrange, who was found bludgeoned to death in a South London park in 2004, is a studious procedural where persistence and care stoke the tension, not plot twists and wayward breakthroughs. It's based on the memoir of the senior investigating officer, Detective Chief Inspector Colin Sutton, who is played by Martin Clunes with a circumspect authority and a lurking fear that the high-profile case is too much for him. The focus is on the police inquiry, which swelled in scope, with staffing levels and disparate personalities both examined, but the brutal crime while thankfully not depicted never recedes. It is ever present, the unthinkable made into a tragic reality. Martin Clunes in Manhunt.Credit:SEVEN NETWORK Louis Theroux: Murder in Milwaukee ABC, 9.30pm It's a typical Louis Theroux work trip to America: the opioid crisis in a West Virginia town, extensive sex trafficking in Houston, and in this episode rampant gun crime and the culture it is evolving on the north side of Milwaukee. The British documentarian, who presents extremes of human existence with a gawky enthusiasm, says that he is looking for answers, but he's most comfortable on the front lines of any crisis, dealing with individuals and not deeply engaging with the structural issues that fuel these issues. So wearing a flak jacket, Theroux and his crew ride along with police, interview former gang members who have more guns now that they're raising families, and occasionally linger on dead bodies in the street. Racial divisiveness, America's firearm laws (or lack of them), and the militarisation of community policing are all broached, but rarely broken down and assessed as parts of a complex situation. There are some shocking sights here, but that's not always enough. https://www.watoday.com.au/entertainment/tv-and-radio/whats-on-tv-tuesday-march-19-20190313-h1cbi2.html?ref=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_source=rss_feed Statistics published by theHeraldin the lead-up to their preliminary final loss to their opponents on Friday revealed the Rabbitohs scored 38 tries within 10 metres of the left sideline last season 14 more than the next best team.
That translated to 36 per cent of their total tries, but the reliance eventually spelled the demise of the Bunnies in the preliminary as the Roosters held them to just four points. It's a sore point that has shaped their preseason. "We kept getting success so we kept going there, but it probably hurt us in the back end," halfback Adam Reynolds said. "We probably got a bit predictable and teams read our game plan and came up with ways to stop it, and we didnt have a Plan B at times there. "We have taken [a new] approach to things and implemented them throughout our game plan. "[Now] it comes back to our spine and executing." Bringing Inglis to the right-hand side of the field will help Souths' attack but it will also allow their skipper to keep a close eye on Mitchell on the other side of the ball. The similarities between the pair are as clear as day. Mitchell is packed full of power, has a superb turn of foot and a top speed that allows him to bust tackles with the same regularity which made Inglis a sensation when he burst onto the scene for the Storm in 2005. "Trying to tackle him and trying to tackle GI at Origin level is virtually similar," Reynolds said. "Latrell is a star and he showed what he could do last year up against Will Chambers and those quality centres. "Whoever plays that position has to be on their game, and you cant give him too much space because he will definitely hurt you. "Theyre tall, theyre strong, theyre quick, theyre both very powerful humans. "Im always excited when Greg runs on field. "Hes one of the greats and will go down as one of the greats of the game." In addition to the Inglis shift, strengthening the right edge also means allowing Cody Walker more licence to roam. "I just have a role to roam wherever I feel comfortable," Walker said. "[That will] also give the boys on the right a bit more of a chance to have the ball. "We were pretty dominant on the left edge and it is just the way we played last year. "Thats something we have been working on all preseason and you will probably see a different game this weekend." Inglis' replacement on the left edge will be Braidon Burns. His preseason has impressed Walker, who backed him to fill the hole left by his skipper in a match that seems to grow in stature every season. "These are two sides who have been around forever and that are five minutes down the road from each other," he said. "Were fierce rivals and its always a huge game for us." BHP Group fell 1 per cent to $36.52, Woodside Petroleum closed 1.7 per cent lower at $34.70, Oil Search went down 2 per cent to $7.90, Santos slipped 2.2 per cent to $6.80, WorleyParsons slid 4.2 per cent to $13.77 and Beach Energy ended the session at $2.00 after falling 2.4 per cent.
Macquarie Group shares fell 2.3 per cent to $125.59 after the corporate regulator, as part of its review into fees-for-no-service failures, suggested the bank's calculation for refunds for fees paid for no service was inadequate. Fund manager Perpetual jumped 12.3 per cent to $43.20 with no specific news around. Perpetual would not comment on the rise. The most points were added by Newcrestafter it announced it would pay $US806.5 ($1.15 billion) for a controlling stake in the Red Chris copper-gold mine and surrounding tenements in British Columbia. The deal marks the the local miner's first entry into North America. Its shares rose 3.8 per cent to $25.43. Other gold miners were also among the market leaders on Monday as investors flocked to safe haven assets. Northern Star Resources climbed 4.5 per cent to $9.32, Evolution Mining rose 4.3 per cent to $3.64, Saracen Mineral Holdings lifted 5.5 per cent to $2.71, St Barbara closed 7.4 per cent higher at $4.48, Regis Resources advanced 5.1 per cent to $5.59 and Resolute Mining closed at $1.18, up 5.9 per cent. Appen entered a trading halt on Monday morning, announcing the acquisition of San Francisco-based machine learning software platform FigureEight Technologies. The company will fund the acquisition through a $285 million fully underwritten placement to institutional shareholders at an offer price of $21.50 a share. Its shares did not trade on Monday. Stock watch EML Payments RBC Capital Markets lifted its recommendation on payment solutions provider EML Payments from "sector perform" to "outperform" after the company upgraded its guidance for the 2018-19 fiscal year. The company lifted its revenue from between $82 million and $88 million to between $88 million and $94 million, and its earnings before tax, depreciation and amortisationfrom between $26 million and $28 million, to between $27 million and $28 million. "We forecast solid growth for EML," analyst Gary Sherriff said. "EML has signed contracts with high-profile, large multi-national gaming companies and we believe these contracts are likely to drive most of EML's growth going forward." The broker lifted its price target on the company from $2 to $2.25. What moved the market Chinese commodity imports China's already strong commodity imports are likely to remain just as robust in the coming months as the trade war between the US and China comes to an end. "China's imports for January-February were broadly positive," ANZ senior commodity strategist Daniel Hynes said. "Energy imports held up well while coal and copper also showed signs of strong demand. Bulks and soybeans were the only ones to record sharp declines. With trade talks between US and China progressing well, we expect commodity imports to stay robust in the coming months." Brent crude Concerns of a global growth slowdown on Friday saw Brent crude close the session in the red, ending four straight days of gains. On Friday, Brent crude fell 0.8 per cent to $US65.74 a barrel over concerns demand would be more subdued as the global economy slowed. "The US monthly jobs report showed hiring was at its weakest in more than a year," ANZ head of Australian economics David Plank said. "These concerns over the macro backdrop were exacerbated by a slump in Chinese exports. The 20.7 per cent fall in exports was the biggest fall since February 2016. This raised concerns about the impact that the trade tensions are having on the global economy." British pound The direction of the British pound this week will be largely determined by crucial votes in the UK House of Commons on Brexit, with some big swings mooted by analysts depending on how parliament votes. On Tuesday, London time, the House of Commons will vote on the current withdrawal agreement and a framework for a future relationship with the EU. If that's rejected, the House will then vote on whether to leave without a deal. According to CBA, the pound would likely jump as much as 5 per cent if the withdrawal agreement was accepted while a hard Brexit could see the pound fall as much as 8 per cent. Data driven Global share price movements are likely to be driven by a raft of data releases this week as investors look for signs about the health of the global economy. "The data schedule is packed this week with a nice geographical spread,"OANDA senior market analyst Jeffrey Halley said. "Tuesday sees Australian homes loans and US inflation numbers release but the main event will be the UK Brexitvote, which rests on a hopefully palatable motion being put forward to the House Of Commons. This could drag on with successive votes following on Wednesday and Thursday. Thursday sees China release highly-anticipated retail sales and industrial production numbers." "As an entire club, we'll make sure we get behind Rory to help him get through the next 12 months." His injury follows that of speedy forward Sean Lemmens, who will miss up to eight weeks with an ankle injury sustained in the final minute of last weekend's win against Western Bulldogs. Each toy fair has dozens of toys aimed at teaching girls how to code, there are award shows recognising the few senior women there are in the field, Disney cartoons are showing more female scientists and programmers, and people are becoming more conscious of how they talk about these careers as being for everyone. Heck, even Barbie is a scientist and astronaut now.
According to a recent YouGov Galaxy poll, funded by Microsoft Store, 52 per cent of girls aged 1217 would consider a job in a technology or science-related field, while 28 per cent were unsure, and 21 per cent straight up said no. Interestingly, overall, 24 per cent of those surveyed didnt know enough about the jobs available in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and maths). Girls are now more aware of STEM careers, but there's much more work to do.Credit:Getty Images While its great to have more than half of all girls interested in a career in STEM, and it shows that the education campaign is starting to work, that number should be higher, given that most future jobs will be in STEM-related areas. One of the problems with getting girls involved is the perceived lack of female role models. This was highlighted in the YouGov study, when only 4.66 per cent of respondents could name a single female role model in STEM; the vast majority of which named Marie Curie, who has been dead for 85 years. https://www.watoday.com.au/technology/more-girls-interested-in-stem-jobs-but-fewer-women-keeping-them-20190308-p512n5.html?ref=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_source=rss_feed 3/4/2019 0 Comments TRANSEASONAL TRENDS ON SALETRANSEASONAL TRENDS ON SALE
